About Mukund Pandit


Mukund Pandit is one of Pune's most talented artists among today's young stars. Mukund was born in a highly dedicated family with a strong musical background. His father Pandit

Dnyaneshwar is a senior shehnai artist.


Mukund started learning Harmonium at the tender age of 7 from his father. He also took lessons from the famous synthesizer player Shree Ashok Adhav (disciple of famous vocalist Pt. Sadashiv-bua Jadhav of the Kirana gharana.)

Right from the childhood Mukund had a great attraction for rhythm. Sensing this his father introduced him to tabla when he was 10. Mukund took his first tabla lessons from Pt. Dayanand Paranjape. After that it was 10 years of advanced talim from the famous tabla artist Pt. Vinayak Phatak. In 1994-95 Mukund received the most prestigious National Fellowship for Young Talents award from Govt. of India. Since then Mukund has been mastering his tabla skills with help from famous tabla maestro Pt. Nayan Ghosh in the style of the Farukhabad gharana.



Mukund has done his "Sangit Alankar" in tabla from Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya and “Sangeet Visharad” in harmonium from Bhagat Gayan Samaj, Pune.

Mukund has given many solo tabla performances all over India - at Mumbai, Bangalore, Nasik, Nagpur, Satana, Pune, Delhi, Ahmednagar to name a few. He was specially invited by South-Central Cultural Zone (S.C.C.Z.) and Cultural Ministry of India.

Mukund is one of the finer tabla accompanists among the young stars. He has shared the stage with many artists, most noticeably Pt. Dnyaneshwar Pandit, Pt. C.R. Vyas, Sau. Asha Khadilkar, Pt. Bandopant Solapurkar, Pt. Shailesh Bhagwat, Pt. Nayan Ghosh, Pt. Saraswatibai Rane, Mina Fatarpekar, Pt. Kaiwalya Kumar Gurav, Pt. K.L Ginde, PT. Suryakant Khaladkar.


Mukund has performed on some T.V. channels like Sahara T.V., Sahyadri T.V. and has also performed in many prestigious concerts like Sawai Gandharva Sangit Mahotsav, South-Central Cultural Zone, Yuva Sangit Mahotsav, Dasnayak Musical Festival, Pt. Kumar Gandharva Sangit Mahotsav, Pt. Bhatkhande Smruti Samaroha, Shahu Maharaj Sangit Rajani, Durmil Wadya Sangit Sammelan, Pune Festival and Vividha Kala Mahotsav.

Apart from playing Tabla Mukund indulges in other aspects of the Indian music too. He has a very bright sense of ‘swar’ and ‘melody’. He has performed many solo harmonium concerts.

He plays synthesizer too.

Staying in tune with the times, Mukund is doing research in “Classical Music On Piano”. He plays raga on piano in “gayaki aang” and ‘tant aang”.
